Paris, France – Just when we thought the Duchess of Cambridge had hung up her dress coats and retired her court shoes, Kate did a U-turn back to the traditional style that makes royal fans’ hearts soar. While in Copenhagen visiting Queen Margrethe II and Crown Prince Mary of Denmark, she engaged Catherine Walker mode.
The British brand beloved by Diana, Princess of Wales has been fashioning Kate’s ladylike outerwear since she married Prince William in the spring of 2011. Said Cyrus, the man now behind the label, once told Vogue Magazine that high – profile women come to Catherine Walker ‘for garments that are suitable for the role they are playing and match up to the power they have’. A job well done this week in Denmark, as Kate’s classic grey coat with black lapels spelled out professional polish. Her bouncy ringlets and megawatt smile, meanwhile, suggested nothing but warmth for her fellow royals.
Kate played into the classicism of her coat, by accessorising with a matching black Mulberry bag, Gianvito Rossi pumps and pearls. It’s a failsafe formula we have seen her employ before, in similar Catherine Walker coats, and no doubt made the Duchess feel like herself during her solo tour.
