Paris, France– I f there was any doubt that Adele has entered a new era, her music video for ‘Oh My God’ proves she’s changed for good. The superstar’s black – and – white, Sam Brown – directed clip for 30’s third single is unlike any visual she’s shared before. Styled by Jamie Mizrahi, it takes Adele on a stylish journey. As the camera pans across the screen and dancers writhe across the frame, she transforms, with a trip of outfits reflecting her current performed mood.
Naturally, the first look is the most subdued. In the video’s first second, darkness fades to reveal Adele clad in Harris Reed’s transparent pussy – bow blouse covered with polka dots. Worn with a black corset top and an empire waist skirt, the looks skews close to the styles we’ve seen the star sport in the past year while off – duty. With her hair parted and slicked back, the final touches could have been kept classic, but Mizrahi took things up a notch with the addition of jewellery from Reed’s collaboration with Missoma. The gold and pearl drop earrings and matching rings added a touch of sparkle and their celestial shapes foreshadowed the next ensemble.
A custom piece from Louis Vuitton signalled the second verse and playfully nodded to the song’s title. Nicolas Ghesquiere’s brocade gown and white caplet feel like vestments, and it doesn’t hurt that Adele wears them while singing in front of a neon halo. The look’s drama is taken even further thanks to its black leather opera gloves and chandelier cross earrings. As Adele is never one to skimp on the beauty, legendary hair stylist Sam McKnight created a retro chignon for her while make – up artist Anthony Nhuyen added plenty of the famous black liquid liner.
Still, the video’s piece de resistance was a haute couture creation from Vivienne Westwood that served as its grand finale. You can’t go wrong with one of Westwood’s corseted pieces, and Adele was at her best in the red satin gown with matching silk tulle bolero. Though the arresting colour could only be seen on Instagram, where Mizrahi posted behind – the – scenes snapshots, the look’s impact was evident even in black and white. As Adele emerged in her Westwood grandeur with wet look curls and a diamond – laden Cartier necklace, you knew things would and on a high note.
