It is, remarkably, not a movie set: in fact, some viewers may recognize its real – life identity almost instantly: Villa Balbiano is one of the most iconic homes on Lake Como. Oh, yes. As of today, the home – sharing site has officially listed the grand estate – albeit only for a brief time in March. The property is sure to draw fashion fanatics, history buffs, and art aficionados: Villa Balbiano dates back to the 17th century, and was most famously home to Cardinal Duirini in the 18th. He amassed a large art collection and bought additional parcels of land which he then build additional structures on, including a church. Throughout his stewardship, Villa Balbiano became a gathering place for Italian intellectuals.
Fast forward to the modern day, and the home is filled with antique furniture sourced from auctions at Sotheby’s and Christies. The 17th century frescos by Baroque painters the Recchi brothers and Agostino Silva remain and are remarkable preserved. Famed french interior Jacque Garcia also helped modernize the home’s six suites so they could be enjoyed by present – day visitors. Some other luxurious touches?
