First Blush: Why Rose Hermes Is The Next Chapter For Hermes Beauty

Rouge Hermes, the prestigious line of lipsticks from the French luxury fashion house, was without a doubt last year’s most coveted beauty launch, not least because of its almost unnerving attention to detail that was applied to everything from the product to the packaging (which is designed by Pierre Hardy, creator of the brand’s shoes).

PARIS, France – Now, hot on its heels, comes Rose Hermes Silky Blush. ‘Blush is a natural continuation of lipstick’, explains Jerome Touron, creative director of Hermes Beauty. ‘Blush is like a hyphen, as it creates a connection between the colour of the lips and the rest of the face, and so it was a logical next step’.

If the lipstick collection was an ode to red, this is a celebration of all things pink. Touron was inspired by shades that he discovered in Hermes’s colour library in Lyon (a famed institution that houses all 75,000 hues from its signature silk scarves), whittling them down to 50 before settling on his final eight. ‘I wanted to explore a new colour territory’, he begins. ‘With the lipsticks, red is the colour of expression, it’s like a statement of who you are. But with pink, it is slightly different. It’s still the idea of revealing something about yourself and your emotions, but in a softer, more diffused way’.

The line ranges from the vivid pink in Rose Pommette, perfect for porcelain skin, to a peachier pink Rose Abricot that will work wonderfully with a tan, and a beautifully burnished fuchsia in Rose Feu that is great for darker skin tones. And for an Asia – exclusive: the Rose Poivre shade, which envelops the lips in a spicy, elegant pink.

Thanks to its texture and the innovative way that the powder has been pressed, the blush is so soft and feels like…well, like a Hermes silk scarf caressing the complexion. Packaged in refillable compacts in chic white enamel and gold, the casing is equally sublime and sustainable, too. And because Hermes thinks of everything, there are also accessories: two make – up brushes, three rosy lip enhancers and a pink leather Pommette Blush Case (who wouldn’t want a Hermes handbag in which to house their Hermes blusher?). ‘At Hermes, there is a love for gestures, says Touron. ‘And for me, make-up is about features and is similar to choreography: it’s precise, it’s artistic, it’s emotional. It is not just a product of convenience, it’s so much more than that. It is something that is part of everyday life, but in a good way’.
