Expo 2020 Dubai: Singapore Pavilion To Showcase Orchid Named After H.H. Sheikha Fatima

The Singapore Pavilion at the Expo 2020 Dubai will exhibit a rare orchid that is named after Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bin Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women’s Union, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation, and the ‘Mother of the Nation’.

Paris/France – – The Orchid, officially known as the Dendrobium Sheikha Fatima bin Mubarak, was named after Her Highness on Marc 22, 2017. The flower is one of 200 orchids named by the nation after state dignitaries including the State Counsellor of Myanimar Aung San Suu Kyi, the late Nelson Mandela, the United Nations’ former secretary – general Ban Ki – Moon. Orchids are Singapore’s national flower and are exhibited at the VIP Orchid Garden in the National Orchid Garden in Singapore.

The Singapore Pavilion promises a host of spectacular sights including a flower dome, where the Dendrobium Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak orchid is expected to be on display in full bloom during the event. Themed around the concepts of Nature, Nature, Future, the Singapore Pavilion has kept sustainability at the forefront. It aims to utilize green architecture to showcase that urban development can and must integrate with nature.

Ahead of Expo 2020, the Singapore government stated, ‘Beyond its breathtaking first impression, visitors will be taken on a journey that presents a microcosm of Singapore’s transformed landscape, paying tribute to our sustainability journey and tracing how we have turned limitations into opportunities as we continue growing into a sustainable, resilient and liveable city through the smart integration of design, technology and nature.
